So if this were to happen over Homecoming... and if alumni were allowed to drive... and if the buggies could be 'alumni buggies'... there is only one question left to ask:
If alumni were to build a buggy for the purpose of allowing 'non'-drivers to drive would a buggy built around my fat ass be large enough for anyone to drive?
Hell, that might be a good fundraiser right there. '$100 donation and you can get caped and roll in the Alumni Buggy'.

How much would you pay to NOT have to push Carl, or any mechanic, up the backhills?
I like the sound of the alumni mechanics buggy. I would love to see something long enough to fit my 6'5" self.

You guys want a buggy that is both tall and wide? I wonder what happened to SAE's Shocker.

A long, wide buggy is definitely in the cards. Shocker was definitely not fast enough, though. Not enough engineering porn involved.

Standard or reverse tryke?
Now that we've all seen QL's steering ... it'll probably only take a few hours,
a drill press and a case of Mickey's once the rod-ends and bar stock get delivered
for us to slap a copy together ... again. Since we're gonna let fatasses like me and
carl drive it should probably have a nice comfy suspension, those always work.

Re: All Alumni Heats
I would think a reverse trike. I might imagine a 300lb buggy+driver may have structural issues with a top-load config and I'd rather front-load into a reverse trike than stretch over a damn steering into a standard trike.
But anyway, I'm assuming an alumni buggy build will still be a closed process. As much fun as it would be to have a picture of alumni from 8 teams building a buggy together in harmony, filming the process as a learning tool for teams starting out, I don't think that will happen.
Bordick: 'Oh, you guys use XXX? Wow, that must make the buggy like 3x faster!'
