Re: derby 2010
Grats to you guys (and everyone else who might be lurking who was involved) -- I know a lot went into that and it was a tough field.
What were the full results? The AASBD site is essentially impossible to navigate. I heard ZE et al provided some tough competition. 1/2 separated by .006? Is that right? Seems like a lot of record breaking happened this weekend.

Re: derby 2010
Eventually someone will post a better summary somewhere but here is a quick rundown. Weather was hot, humid, and threatened to rain a few times but never did. There was a variable tail wind that helped shuffle the standings a bit but the lanes were well balanced this year as many cars had there times from each lane very close together. Lane 1 was probably a bit quicker if you could take away the wind effects (or the wheels on the top cars were juicier in their first run).
A few wheel replacements were made due to tire degradation (our b car, Barr's car and possibly others). Juice and fragile wheels are becoming more common. Many wheel failures in practice as well earlier in the week. I think disposable wheels have become the norm in this race. The cloud of vapor that came from the wheel locker upon opening was astounding.
In the end, Duane's wheels were faster but mine hold the record. We ran different wheels on the 1st and 3rd place cars. Had the order been reversed we would likely be looking at a much faster time for the blue car and a much slower finish on the white car. We expected the white car to benefit from the wheel choic but ran the more well understood wheels on the A car. Ends up that was the right call for this year. I could project a very low 26.8 or possibly a very high 26.7 had the wheels been swapped.
round 1 2 3
our blue pontoon car (heat 5) 26,844, pass, 26.858
the ZE car ( heat 1) 26.859, 26.849, 26.873
our white test mule (heat 7) 26.861, 26.877, 26.963
After round one, our B car was 0.002 sec away from 2nd place. The record was broken 2 times. (heat 1 and heat 5 in round one).
We did not run the blue car in round 2 due to driver loading issues. We needed a harness to keep the driver from sliding back when braking (foot brake). We could nto get her loaded in in the short window we had so we pulled the car off the line rather than hold up the show. There was significant time pressure due to the movie that was filming at the same time. ZE's best time on their A car came from that round. We may have missed an opportunity to shine.
The top 7 cars (except the 5th place car of Michell Rich) were in the same lane in each heat.
best times for the rest:
4th Kristi Murphy (ZE's 'b' car) 26.916 (This time is also under last year's record)
5th Michell Rich (new team, my old wheels (I was not directly involved as they borrowed them from WARGO, I did provide them with a spare)) 26.965 (time set in round 2 with some warm wheels)
6th Cory Schurr (last 2 year's 2nd place (on pka wheels) 26.965 (they used new small wheels with rubber tires).
7th Hughes (american girl, former pka wheel runner, running ZE wheels) 26.977
8th Osborne/Barr (also on small wheels that were similar to Schurr's wheels, and wheel fairings) 27.000
9th Underwood (on ZE wheels) 27.007
10th Troyer (on some wheels we provided) 27.096
11th Albertoni (on pka wheels) 27.146
12th Tuna (on wheels we provided) 27.158
13th Rickilea Murphy in the car that was 5th last year 27.167
14th Wargo 27.280 ( red car from 08 with mpc wheels)
15th Megan Marulli ( pneumatic tires) 27.284
16th workmaster 27.397 (mpc)
17th Pruden (matal car) 27.551
18th Ashley Wilt (car top carrier on wheels) 28.262
19th Carney (great looking car with poor wheels) 28.496

Man I'm just glad I took the time to visit with the guys at Lynx (who make the finish cameras). The tip about painting the noses of the cars orange probably won us the race.

Re: derby 2010
The 2009 ET (not MPH) USC record was broken eleven times in 2010 (six of the 11 by ZE racing).

Re: derby 2010
That is a bit misleading and/or poor use of the concept of record breaking. The corrected statement could be "The 2009 USC record was surpassed eleven times in 2010 (six of the 11 by ZE racing).TXDERBY wrote:The 2009 ET (not MPH) USC record was broken eleven times in 2010 (six of the 11 by ZE racing).
The record was 'broken' exactly 2 times in 2010 competition. The record was broken in round 1, heat 2 by Jim Overmyer driving for CSR/SN racing. He set a new record time of 26.861. This new record stood until heat 5 of round 1, when it was broken by Sheri Lazowski, also of CSR/SN racing with a time of 26.844. Her time has remained the record since. Some times were posted between or after these record setting runs that were faster than the 2009 record but due to the order in which they occurred, they were not record breakers (a new record having already been established at a lower ET).
To put the results in terms understood at cmu:
Our "B" car also broke/held the record for a few minutes and wallopped your "B" car by a goodly margin (~0.060 sec)
Our "A" car broke/set the record in round one and beat your "A" car's best time by a hair (0.005 sec)
Our "B" car also beat your "A" car in round 3 by 2 hairs (0.010 sec) and only lost to it in round 1 by 2/5th of a hair (0.002 sec).
The last 3 cars to hold record are, from oldest to most recent:
3 ZE's 2-quik-4-u (2009, 26.924)
2 CSR/SN racing white mule (2010, 26.861)
1 CSR/SN racing blue cat (2010, 26.844)
The USC race is about low ET. There are no official top speed (mph) times measured or recorded in conjunction with USC and to my knowledge no one has data on top speed from this year's race.
BTW, if you are going to throw around stats like '6 of the 11 by ZE', I will point out that 4 of the best 6 times were CSR/SN racing, including the quickest.
