They have to want it. I would not count them out, but the potential for a zooless raceday exists.abordick wrote:
Hey, kick those Zoo boys in the butt and get them out there. Pare back the workload. Come on, how can Sig Nu just opt out? Isn't there a long line of alumni who will be arriving to 'encourage' them to participate?

For those not on the DList or without a contact on one: Bad news. SigNu is officially out this semester. They are not on the chores list sent out by Shellhamer.

Sad to say it, but I know a lot of the local alums are at, or getting close to, the end of their proverbial rope with the actives. Alumni involvement can steer and focus a willing chapter, but no amount of alumni encouragement will manufacture desire or drive in people that don't have any to begin with. The real victims here, if you ask me, are the people in the house who DO want to do buggy, but can't do it without the support of those who can't be bothered to drag their asses out of bed.
Sigh. Here's hoping this is a temporary setback and not the end of an era.

Hey, do they have any wheels they want to sell?
. . . or a buggy, I hear the ROTC is looking. . .

I suspect selling a buggy is probably not on the table right now but I have been wrong about this in the past. (faux colugo in the early 90s)abordick wrote:Hey, do they have any wheels they want to sell?

As for 'selling' wheels. The zoo would have to 'own' them to sell them. The owner(s) of the wheels are not as motivated by profit as other wheel guys so the word "sell" is probably not the right one to use. The simple thing to do is sit on them and wait for a return of interest at the house. Some might have use at derby but this is fading as the tiny wheel revolution continues there.
I have not entertained alternatives to sitting and waiting as it is hard to un-root for a team.
Interesting idea to consider. What would a 2 second improvement in roll time be worth?

Re: Hey SigNu
2 seconds. I think we could talk some nice figures. But first, some questions:
Can you guarantee those 2 seconds?
Will they shred in the chute?
Will the buggy chickens come out for that stuff?
Will they have sweet ESP stickers on them?
What color will them be?
Is that negotiable?
Can I sleep with them?
I think these answers may drive the cost up or down.

Guarantee? For most orgs, more than 2 sec. For pka on their best day, probably more like 1 sec. I can guarentee that they would roll at least 2 seconds faster than your roll in the finals last yearabordick wrote:2 seconds. I think we could talk some nice figures. But first, some questions:

Re: Hey SigNu
A suggestion re: SN's participation.....
I was an SAE. Back in my era ('70's), SAE was very strong - including in Buggy.
Times changed, and The House had no lack of problems for many years: slackers, low number of members, finances, problems with CMU admin, etc., this included not participating in Buggy for several years. It was touch and go, for a while.
SAE is now back in gear, and the situation was largely rectified by the alumni getting tough on the 'bad brothers' and stepping in and helping straighten out their various problems( finances, probation, etc.).
I'd hate to see SN not participate. I think historically SN has been a good competitor, especially as far as free rolls go.
In SAE's case, it took the concerned effort of long term devoted alumni (mostly locals to Pgh) to get things back on a straight path.
