Who will the judges be for 2011?
I was slated to be a judge last year (I had done it before), but last minute business issues forced me to cancel. I was looking forward to it.
I'm thinking volunteering as a judge again in 2011, and was wondering if other BAA members might want to join me and communicate with the Sweepstakes chairpersons about doing so.
I can think of no better place to get qualified judges than BAA, especially when combined with a few judges from 'outside of CMU' (who could offer a fresh perspective).
Any takers?

I don't really have any qualifications other than that I was safety chair in 2000, but I would be interested.

the cook typically arrives wed. evening then plays quarters until the wee hours, and therefore respectfully declines

I might be considered "too fresh" out of undergrad, but I'd be happy to throw my name in the hat. I'd even sign an NDA so fringe doesn't freak out.

I asked Jess last year about this and am still interested. I am keeping my buggy knowledge current with a job building experimental composite aircraft at Scaled Composites, so spend a fair amount of time around composite structures. Let me know if sweepstakes is really interested in alumni judges.

To all the would be judges, what would you change about design comp in its current form to make it better?
There was an extensive discussion about this here if you need inspiration.
One thing I used to like about design comp was diversity on the panel, Academic/Professional/Hobbyist, Old/Experienced/Fresh, Serious/Enthusiastic/Sarcastic
How much do you think it would cost to have a Top-Gear host be a judge?
Would that get the Pikes/Zoos/SDC paranoid 'not worth it' crowd back in front of the panel?

I can't speak for the current kids (they do Greek sing, after all), but we always avoided the "judged" events because there was too much subjectivity. I mean, you think the Fire Marshall has leeway, a bunch of random judges pontificating on the "prettiness" of the design of my buggy didn't seem to add any value to our program.
Their perception may have changed. I think Fringe has an idea that pretty buggies spur involvement. That may be true, but we didn't do it because we didn't need to and it didn't help our program.
Just an old man's opinion.
