Well, now THAT is simply untrue. Unless "state of the art" means "unrollable." AEther certainly LOOKS state of the art, but alas that does not make it a good buggy or even a rollable buggy.

Also, probably not true for SigEp, who have had problems with Peregrin.

Mackin, the camber is completely intentional, and definitely had nothing at all to do with Ascension losing that wheel in the chute on Sunday. That was obviously due to an explosive bolt (for rapid wheel changes, of course) misfiring at the worst possible time, and the port-side backup wheel failing to deploy. Never fear, we've fixed the wiring and that should never happen again.

Glad to see that Banyan V is doing well! Call it what you will, but in my mind it will forever be "Bamf".

And JakeReid - I warned you about spray-adhesive, bro.

That's a pretty broad generalization, in '99 Bachi was Fringe's second build of a generation and although it spun Men's A that year it snagged 2nd place the year after. Bas(s)ketcase and Brazen (champs in '01) were Fringe's 5th and 6th builds respectively but are slow by modern Fringe standards ... never stop building.

McCue, do your job or come back and be safety chair again next year. You've done it as a non student before.

Jerry, Sounds legit. Can't wait to see a speedy wheel change in the chute like the good ol' days. And call her what you will. Her full name is "Bonsai the Bamf" in case you were wondering.

McCue, good question. Where's the bragging, Tommy? 10 years and still rolling strong.

But when it was new, Bachi was far ahead of anything else Fringe had at the time. Same for Brazen. Still, would Brazen, on modern wheels, be any slower than any buggy outside of the top-3 teams? I guess raceday will tell. Brazen in '01 seemed like a safe bet, but would you have called Bachi in '99 a double-or-nothing gamble?

Historically our buggy generations went something like...

Mark I: Terrible. 50/50 it never rolls / decent after rebuild.
Mark II: Good. Solid buggy with one or two small design flaws.
Mark III: Bad. Attempts to fix small design flaws result in massive design flaws.
Mark IV: Terrible. Attempts to fix massive design flaws result in a highly engineered, perfectly crafted shell which for unknown reasons sucks.
Mark V: Never attempted due to compulsion to binge-drink when confronted by failure of Mark IV.

Note that some Mark IIIs can actually be good buggies with massive design flaws (ie, 'Gee, nobody with feet can drive this buggy!'). Also note that Mark Is are usually restarts so are hamstrung by poor alumni communication (ie, 'Where did you guys put the Bondo?' 'It was sitting on the box of 10yo prepreg.' 'Oh. That was prepreg?' 'WTF?!? Yes! It was right next to the box of never ever use 20yo polyester resin!!!!!' '...').

It's trapped by the chagrin of having decided not to go this year.
If it rolls a sub-55 I'll digitally spew all over this place.

Who's broadcasting this year? Can we please have a McCue/Nott tag-team?

Not unless I get divorced.*

*In which case that request could be acceptable on multiple levels.
