CJ and I did some math on a carbon-nomex-carbon vacuum ball ... its large and expensive.Carl Nott wrote:I always wanted to make a blimp. Then again, we are buggy people, so I'm assuming we'd want a vacuum airship instead of something as mundane as a blimp.

I'm kind of surprised there isn't already a blimp cam. What do we have all these robotics guys for if we can't get an autonomous dirigible camera blimp hovering over the course? It could chase the lead buggy from the transition flag to the plug from about 30 feet in the air. Do they still do SURG grants? This seems like something that could be whipped up in a couple weeks with junk from a hobby shop. Can we setup a BAA Grand Challenge?

I was thinking of getting some cheap cameras on mylar balloons at interesting places around the course next year, if sweepstakes would be in favor of it. Won't give anything good for the broadcast, but it would be cheap/easy and cool to watch after the fact.
