I regret to inform the CMU Buggy Community of the loss of one of our own:

Robert G. "Buggy Bob" Thomas, Jr. (wearing the sweater) circa 1976 with SAE "Intrepid"

Bob passed away Friday following a long hospitalization for a serious medical condition.

Buggy Bob pioneered the successful reintroduction of the 4 wheel buggy era at SAE after a decade in which the SAE 2-wheelers had dominated their efforts during the '60s. Bob's "Intrepid" was designed/built entirely by him one summer around 1972, and superseded the unsuccessful 4- wheeler "2024" as the first viable 4 wheeler in SAE's stable in the 1970s.

He graduated from the Architecture Department in 1974, where he knew some of the original founders of Fringe. Bob also was a Sweepstakes Design judge one year in the '90s. He was 61.
